Pride of Safaris Home Kiwayu Safari Village, Lamu Archipelago
A Personal Paradise
Windsurfing off the beach.     East Africa is famous for her coastal superlatives: shimmering, palm-edged beaches washed by steady ocean breezes, where the soft white sands melt into sparkling azure waters. But nowhere on the whole East African coast – perhaps nowhere in Africa – is the sand softer, the breeze steadier, or the water sweeter than at Kiwayu Safari Village. This is where the early Arab traders put ashore to collect water from the area’s natural springs, and where The Pride sends its modern adventurers for a refreshing end to their African journey.

In this natural Eden, Kiwayu offers a coastal retreat of the utmost simplicity and sophistication. The spacious thatched bandas blend into the sweeping sand dunes, where spiral-horned kudu roam and green turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Kiwayu prides itself on being in tune with its pristine surroundings, and most of its big game fishing is restricted to tag-and-release sustainability.

Beach front accommodations.     The 18 bandas are simple but spacious suites, with huge, net-draped beds, comfortable dressing rooms, and bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. Each banda has a shady, hammock-strung verandah offering complete seclusion and shelter from the sun. The dining room and bar are furnished with huge funzi sofas piled high with colourful cushions, and offer the finest seafood and Italian-inspired cuisine.

Kiwayu boasts everything one could possibly desire of the perfect beach holiday, from snorkelling on beautiful coral reefs to sailing and windsurfing in the lagoon, dhow trips around the island, and fishing for barracuda and snapper in the mangrove-lined channels. Our state-of-the-art fishing boat offers access to some of the world’s greatest game fishing, with thrilling sport for sailfish, kingfish and marlin between September and April.

Open air suites.     Whatever your picture of paradise, whatever your personal holiday needs, Kiwayu offers the perfect end to a classic African adventure. A 90-minute flight from Nairobi will land you on Kiwayu’s airstrip, from where a short drive will deliver you to Kenya’s ultimate coastal retreat.
